Out With the Old And In With the New
Solar heating technology for heating hot water in the home some

Mr. & Mrs. Nias
inherited their solar water heating system when they purchased their home in
Balby, Doncaster, uk. fourteen years ago. Although they could not confirm when
the previous owners had purchased the system, we found out from locals that the
soar collector panel had been on the roof some 10 to 15 years before. but now that the old system has come to the
end of it’s life expectancy the couple have enlisted Heavens Solar Technology to supply and install the new
generation of solar water heating in to their home.
The problem

The inherited solar heating system was 25+ years old and did
not come with an instruction book!

Traditional mains powered designs have a separate
antifreeze circuit, expansion vessel, additional pre-heat cylinder and
heat exchangers. Required maintenance nor the regular topping up of the
vital antifreeze had ever been carried out during the 14 years or so. |

The solar heating collector panel had blown their
seals and were constantly leaking.
|
The antifreeze was required to prevent damage
to the solar panel, caused by many a cold and frosty winter month here
in the UK. |

Subsequently the solar heater system was no longer
producing the expected volume of solar hot water. It had defiantly
come to the end of it's life expectancy. |
The Solution
 Heavens Solar Technology removed the old
solar water heater system,
the mains electric powered water pump, the solar pre-heat cylinder and all the
associated gadgetry and pipe work.
Solartwin was then installed. The
conventional hot water system was a standard low pressure vented system.
Once the new light weight solar panel was bolted on to the roof, we passed the two
micro-boar pipes and cable inside and "teed" in to the existing
cylinder.
Benefits of the new system

A substantial
solar
water temperature gain compared to what they were experiencing from the old
solar heating system design.

They were
getting temperatures of 40 degrees at best with old solar, Solartwin
typically heats 120 liters of water up to 70C. |

By
eliminating most of the controllers, plumbing etc there is no need for a
complicated maintenance program. |

Because there
are less components than with the old solar energy system design, Mr & Mrs Nias
benefit from regaining valuable space in their attic. |
